The Indestructible Uma Thompson: A Journey of Love, Loss and Carbon Capture

My name is Uma Thompson and I feel like my life has been a whirlwind of love, heartbreak, resilience, and redemption. I have loved so fully, lost some of my deepest loves, and risen like a phoenix each time...with a scar to prove it. That said, let’s rewind...

The Love that Almost Ruined Me

I met him at a sustainability conference in 2022. Tall, confident, charming, with a smile that could melt a continent (humorous because of my profession) we formed an immediate bond over green tech and late-night workouts. I indulged in late night whispers where he flattered me with ideas of saving the planet for future generations. He had me softened to just saving the planet and my heart. What I did not know then was that all those eco-certifications accompanied a web of lies.

I soon discovered just after he had lived with me for 10 months, that his carbon offset wasn't the only The carbon offset he wasn’t telling me about. I discovered he was texting not one, not two, but three other women about this amazing experience he was giving them about "renewable energy." I didn't think my heart could feel worse than the lactic acid I felt when working out like I had something to prove. I had my first protein shake and just began running at 5 am from that point on, vowing to never be duped by love ever again.

Rising From Deviastation

I channeled my heartbreak into fitness, specifically crossfit. I was going to replace my despair with weight lifting. I was unhappy and suffering inside, so with each deadlift, I channeled all of the heartbreak into my chosen profession as a Carbon Capture Specialist who literally makes a living cleaning up messes we make in the atmosphere and messes we make in our personal lives.

Current status: I live like a storm of self-love with a side of sustainability. My DMs are a flood; I have yet to meet someone I can trust again like I was just about to forget ever could happen. But for now, my passion burns stronger than I ever thought possible.
